Your 14-Day Right of Withdrawal in Estonia

In Estonia, consumer rights regarding online purchases are strictly protected under the Law of Obligations Act (VÕS). According to VÕS § 56 (1), a consumer has the right to withdraw from a contract concluded via distance communication within 14 days without providing any reason.

The Withdrawal Process

  1. Notification: You must notify the merchant of your decision to withdraw within 14 days of receiving the goods. A clear statement sent via email is sufficient.
  2. Returning the Goods: Once you have notified the merchant, you must return the items within 14 days.
  3. Refunds: The merchant must refund all payments received, including standard delivery costs, within 14 days of receiving your withdrawal notice.

Important Exceptions

Not all items are eligible for return. Under VÕS § 53 (4), exceptions include:

  • Goods sealed for health or hygiene reasons that have been unsealed (e.g., cosmetics, underwear).
  • Perishable goods.
  • Custom-made or personalized items.

Condition of the Goods

As a consumer, you are liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from handling them beyond what is necessary to establish their nature, characteristics, and functioning. If you have used the product more than you would in a physical store, the merchant may deduct a reasonable amount from your refund.
